May 14th is International Migratory Bird Day and nationwide events are planned to celebrate this day. Don and Lillian Stokes will be speaking at the Baltimore Zoo festivities at 11:00 am and signing books, including their new Stokes Oriole Book. For information about the book click here. Orioles, popular international migratory birds, are now returning to the United States from their wintering grounds in Central and South America. Look for them in parks, suburbs, woodland edges, and along rivers. To learn to attract Orioles to your property, click here.
Birding Tip: Watch the Migration
Migration is in full swing during the month of May, so get out your binoculars and catch the parade of beautiful birds. Hummingbirds, orioles, thrushes, tanagers, warblers, vireos, flycatchers, shorebirds, and more are on the move. Visit parks, coastal areas, greenways along rivers, and other areas migrants are known to frequent. Your local bird clubs and bird centers can give you information specific to your location.
