HUMMINGBIRD FEEDING

QUESTION
Is it necessary to boil the water used in hummingbird feeders, or can I use regular tap water?

ANSWER
You should boil the water. Mix 1 part white sugar (not honey or artificial sweeteners) to 4 parts water in a pot and boil for 1-2 minutes then cool. Do not use red food dye in the mix: it is unnecessary.

Store the unused portion in the refrigerator. When it is hot in the summer, clean feeders and change the solution in your feeders every 2 days.

To further attract hummingbirds, plant red tubular flowers. For a list of good hummingbird flowers, click here.
