WHERE HAVE THE BIRDS GONE?

QUESTION
Where have all the birds gone? I have no birds at my feeders.

ANSWER
Right now, there is a superabundance of wild food available for the birds. There are dogwood, viburnum, juniper, bayberry, and holly berries, as well as many seeds, crabapples, and lots of nuts. Many birds will not use feeders when there is so much other food around. Migrating flocks of birds such as robins, thrushes, catbirds, and Yellow-rumped Warblers will be eating the wild berries. Sparrow flocks will eat the wild seeds.

When more of the wild food is eaten and it gets colder, birds will return to the feeders. Meanwhile, keep your birdbaths clean and full because birds always need fresh water.

Be patient, the birds will be back.
