America's "First couple of birding," Don and Lillian Stokes, return with 13 new episodes on public television
OWINGS MILLS, MD More nesting, feeding, paddling, flying and migrating is ahead as the ever-popular Stokes Birds At Home flies into public television stations for a second season beginning January 2001 (check local listings).
From the exotic wilds of Florida to the native plains of Minnesota, hosts Don and Lillian Stokes take viewers to all parts of the country to observe birds in their varied and beautiful habitats. In the wild and in back yards, fans discover unusual bird types such as Red-necked Phalaropes and Purple Martins, learn how to outwit their favorite woodland animals by squirrel-proofing birdfeeders, and how to landscape like pros to attract a variety of fascinating birds to their own properties.
Stokes Birds At Home provides interesting and easy how-to information, bird gardening advice, travel adventure segments, exquisite close-up bird photography and a weekly bird quiz. For 2001, the Stokes take the unprecedented step of dedicating a full episode each to two of North America's favorite birds. In "The Magic of Hummingbirds," Don and Lillian capture and showcase the essence of these "flying jewels," while "Oriole Extravaganza" focuses on America's most flamboyantly colored birds with close-ups of Orioles.
Professional birders of extraordinary accomplishment, the Stokes have been studying and writing about birds and their environments for more than two decades. The authors of Stokes Field Guide to Birds and 24 other books on birding and nature, Don and Lillian Stokes share their passion and expertise with millions of amateur birders around the country.
